POST 7
Hello everyone,
I'm glad you're here one more time. Today I am going to talk to you about my study program and the changes I would make to it. As I have said before, I am studying Theatrical Design, this consists of the scenery design, costumes and lighting for both the performing arts and the audiovisual media. This is why the subjects of the career are related to the understanding of the creation of a scenic design, graphic techniques to express the ideas for a staging and the making and realization of costumes, scenography, light plot, among other things. This is divided into the 5 years that the career lasts, based on the phases that the theater had from the beginning in Ancient Greece to the present day. The first year is the base, they focus on the beginnings of the theater. For the second year, the first semester, focuses on fantasy theater and the second semester on realism. The third year works similar to the previous one, the first semester is political theater and the second semester focuses on the understanding of unconventional spaces and leaves the conventional theatrical stage box to go to the street, sheds, among others. In the fourth year, the theater is put aside and they teach us about how series and movies work, and then, in the second semester, it ends with the premiere of a play made with the acting students. Finally, in the fifth year, the practice is carried out together with a thesis where what was learned is expressed. Although, I understand that the career puts the theater as its priority, it is known to all who study it that a reformulation of its program is necessary since it leaves aside the possibility of deepening skills to be a room technician, art director in film or dance designer, technically there is no limit to what one can become. From the above, the workload is quite a lot in my opinion. Classes are Monday through Friday from ten in the morning until six in the afternoon. Sometimes, due to the extra subjects required by the university, classes can begin at eight thirty in the morning and extend beyond eight at night, becoming more than 12 hours within the university, without counting working hours required by each of the subjects. I think that the big change I would make regarding this, is how the subjects are configured, they are delivered as in school so one does not have the possibility to decide how many subjects to take or the schedules. In my first year I took 12 subjects because it was mandatory , since they are annual and by not registering all of them, one could be delayed a year 😥😥.
Regarding the infrastructure there is nothing to say, it is small for the number of students who go every day, the casino is a room that can accommodate 2 tables for more than 100 people. There are always problems between the careers for the spaces, since the acting career in their training they play music that causes the design career to not listen to the classes well and in turn, the design people occupy a lot of space in their constructions so the only outdoor space the school has is cluttered with supplies. And yes, I said school because it seems like it, it is like a school in all its aspects and I am not talking about the good, also, the bathrooms do not always have soap and toilet paper. And to finish with this part, there are problems in the plugs causing students to get electrocuted or cloves in the floors causing damage to their bodies. For me, it would change everything, from the start it is a part of the arts faculty that is unknown since being separated into 3 venues, mine is separated from all the arrangements that have been made to the other 2.
Finally, about the methods with which they teach us and the technologies they have are the same since the career was created, that is, it is not exactly the same but the changes have been minimal. Teachers are required to be active in their areas, but pedagogy courses are not required, so not all are qualified to teach. The university has a library that is not only small but books can only be used within the department so they cannot be taken home, in addition the computer room has so few computers that not all students can work in it (It is really little, an average of 20 people enter the career annually).
It should be noted that some teachers look for ways to teach, such as self-managed pedagogical outings to theaters.
The truth is that apart from changing what I talked about before, I would like to change how the university thinks about the arts, since they never worry about the well-being of their students.
